Dirtbags California
Residents will receive paid on-the-job career training in motorcycle fabrication, mechanics, and maintenance in partnership with Dirtbags California, a well-respected Harley Davidson motorcycle shop in Long Beach. The Dirtbags shop is conveniently located just a 9-minute drive from our housing. After youth complete phase 1 of their reentry (blackout period), each participant will begin a 30-to-120-day training period at Dirtbags to ensure they develop a strong foundation of workplace skills while they build trust with the program and earn more privileges. The training will cover various aspects of the Dirtbags business, including:
Motorcycle Mechanics: motorcycle repair, full-service maintenance, proper vehicle inspection, and metal fabrication techniques.
Customer Service & Shipping: customer service and shipping/receiving processes that can be applied to any industry.
Once participants complete the initial Dirtbags training, they have the option to either continue in part two of the Dirtbags training program, diving deeper into their chosen area of expertise, or pivot to other employment or educational pathways that align with their long-term career goals. After the initial training at Dirtbags, residents will have the option to:
receive direct job placement at Dirty Pepperoni—a pizza-focused restaurant in the heart of Long Beach’s East Village Arts District, a vibrant area known for its walkability and proximity to public transportation;
continue in-depth mechanical, fabrication, design, and/or marketing paid training at Dirtbags;
Or, with approval from Probation and WHO Leadership,
seek alternative employment and/or enroll in education
